Q: How do I know What class my child should be in?
A: See the Courses page. If you still can't decide, give us a call our staff is happy to help.
Q: Does my child need a life vest?
A: YES! Each student is required to have his/her own life vest. Personal Flotation Devices (PFD's) should be USCG approved and properly fitted at the store. USCG Type III PFD's are recommended for sailing school. Prices usually start around $25/vest. The Sailing School does have a few extras on hand for those who occasionally forget.
Q: What should my child bring to summer sailing lessons?
A: Life vest, sack lunch, water bottle, sun screen, towel, hat, sunglasses, tennis shoes.
Q: Where can I drop off/pick up my child from Columbia Sailing School?
A: Students can be dropped off and picked up in the cul-de-sac in front of the club. A staff member will be positioned at the Sailing School entrance to watch students as they enter and leave class at the beginning and end of each day.
Q: Will there be a swim check?
A: Instructors will perform a swim check of each student in their class. The swim check consists of swimming approximately 25 yards (length of dock), treading water for two (2) minutes with a return swim to the start point. Students will then be thrown a life vest which must be put on and properly fastened. Swimming speed and proficiency are not being tested. Instructors are looking?at the?students comfort in the water
Q: Will there be class if there is bad weather?
A: Youth summer courses will be held regardless of weather. Class time and educational indoor activities are planned for days when it is unsafe to be out on the water.
Q: What if we have to cancel?
A: Our Cancellation policy is three weeks prior to the students start date, the student gets a full refund. Within two weeks prior to your start date, the student gets 1/2 refund. Inside of two weeks there will be no refund.
